At the Gates is a strategy game by Jon Shafer, the designer of Civilization V. In At the Gates, you must survive through the Dark Ages after the collapse of the Roman Empire by recruiting clans and expanding your influence and territory. Clans have different personalities and desires and it is your job to find the best use for them. The map and interface of At the Gates are beautifully design which is not surprising from the designer of a Civilization game. Unlike Civ, however, there’s a bigger focus on internal management such as jobs, training, trade, and more. Weather also plays a bigger role in At the Gates as it features more roguelike environments. At the Gates is a good game to check out for any strategy game fan.
